The British burn treatment specialist S. Jeffery, invited by the foundation, conducted a series of seminars for specialized professionals in the Republic of Armenia.

From July 1 to 6, 2024, the “Nor Nakhichevan” humanitarian foundation organized the “Sahmanapah” (Border Guard) program. Its objective was to conduct specialized seminars at Yerevan State Medical University named after M. Heratsi and the Kapan Medical Center. The program addressed a highly relevant topic: the treatment of burns, which became one of the most pressing healthcare challenges during the recent military actions in Artsakh. In particular, providing first aid for moderate and severe burns is often crucial in saving patients’ lives.

Having thoroughly studied the issue, the foundation invited a renowned British specialist, Professor Steven Jeffery, who had previously visited Armenia to address similar topics. Professor Jeffery is a burn consultant and plastic surgeon at Birmingham City University and a professor specializing in wound healing research. Our goal was to provide Dr. Jeffery with a professional audience both in the capital and at a medical institution in a border region. In this regard, Yerevan State Medical University and the Kapan Medical Center were perfectly suited to meet these objectives.

The seminars were highly productive and featured active professional discussions. Dr. Jeffery presented modern approaches of the “Western medical school” to treating burns sustained during military operations, with a particular focus on the initial critical measures to prevent potential complications.

The organizational aspects of the program were successfully managed thanks to the effective cooperation of the foundation with the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, the administration of the Syunik region, Yerevan State Medical University, and the Kapan Medical Center.

We believe that our collaboration with Dr. Jeffery will continue in the future, and involving leading international specialists in our programs will be a vital step toward providing additional support to our compatriots.
